Abstract
Major advances have been made against Wilms` tumor as a result of developed treatment method. Better survival rates have been achieved and therapy has been refined. This tumor is vulnerable to anti-mitotic treatment such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy that can produce disabling if not lethal dysfunction. Multivariate statistical analyses are used to evaluate factors in predicting relapse and survival for 19 children admitted to the Department of Urology,
Keimyung University School of Medicine during the period from May, 1972 through August, 1983. 1. Two year survival rate according to tumor group was 100% in group I & II, 60% in group III and 30% in group IV and the overall 2-year survival rate was 38%. 2. A reasonable relationship was found among tumor weight, grouping and abdominal recurrence and survival. However the effect was associated only with the very smallest specimen under 250gm. 3. Four (21%) of the 19 patients in this study had unfavorable histology but accurate survival rate was not clearly defined due to small number of patients. 4. Wilms` tumor of the unfavorable histologic type should be managed as that of favorable histology Group IV regardless their group. 5. There seems to be no close relationship between tumor groups and age incidence.
